Winter wheels are an additional set of Alloy Wheels fitted with Winter Tyres which you use during the Winter months, they are a more durable wheel, easier to clean and are resistent against salt, sand and stone chipping. We can supply Winter Tyres from many of the top brands including Vredestein, Goodyear, Continental, Michelin and Pirelli.
It is proved that winter tyres significantly improve grip and reduce stopping distances in temperatures that drop below 70Celsius because, unlike normal driving tyres, they have far better resilience to cold weather, hardening less. This enables them to maintain better traction in low temperatures as well as in the wet and on snow, slush and ice. Tests found that stopping distances were reduced by 4.8 metres on wet roads and 11 metres on icy roads when travelling at 20mph.
RoadSafe’s director, Adrian Walsh, supports the call for wider implementation of winter tyres, saying, “Many European drivers routinely switch to winter tyres in the cooler and wetter months and in some countries it’s a legal requirement. Given the recent harsh winters here and the forecast for this year, it is wise for UK drivers to swap their tyres now. Winter tyres improve safety and help keep traffic moving in difficult wet and icy conditions. It isn’t worth waiting until the weather changes.”
